I recently attended the Advanced Studio Lighting course run by the London Photographic Meetup Group. It was held at the Tabernacle in London and was a three hour course with one model and six photographers. It was a great learning experience for me, because the approach was a mixture of practical and theory. We were shown the effects that we needed to achieve, and then worked in a group, with guidance to set-up the lighting to match.
A few quick images I did today with a manual cable release, tripod and single studio light with soft-box. I wanted a couple of more formal self portrait shots for use on things like Linkedin, and figured I'd dust off the studio equipment...
I recently picked up the Canon Powershot G11 second-hand. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1D MkIII, its a brilliant camera, but it is something of a brick. It is perfect for shoots, for gigs, for taking sweeping landscapes from the foothills of the Himalayas, but its something of a burden to carry around on a casual walk to the park or every day on the tube to work.
